Virginia Shapiro, DC

In her 38 years of practice, Dr. Virginia Shapiro has earned a reputation for excellence as a master diagnostician, and a highly knowledgeable and skillful doctor who is deeply committed to the health and well-being of her patients and her community. She walks her talk and strives to model healthful, sustainable, and joyful lifestyle practices.

Education: Dr. Shapiro earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Carleton College in 1977 and her chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic (now Northwestern Health Sciences University) in 1985. She was board certified in clinical nutrition by the American Board of Chiropractic Nutrition in 1995.  In April 2014, she completed a rigorous process of certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM).  She is one of only two chiropractors in Oregon (and one of only 19 practitioners in the state) with IFM certification.

Her practice integrates functional and environmental medicine, clinical nutrition, non-force integrative chiropractic (Axial Stability Method and Applied Kinesiology), scar tissue and pain management (Frequency Specific Microcurrent), and mind-body medicine.  She has continued intensive postgraduate studies and research updates in all of these areas and intends to do so for the duration of her career.  She regularly consults with experts in her fields of study.

Prior to moving to western Oregon in 2008, Dr. Shapiro had robust integrative practices in Duluth, Minnesota, and Portland, Maine.

Personal: Virginia is married to Dan Shapiro, with whom she has worked for the past 25 years.  Together they have two grown sons and a couple of granddogs.  In addition to her health care practice, she loves being with her family and friends, outdoor swimming, gardening, hiking, botanizing, camping, cross-country skiing, and birding.
